Psystar countersues Apple

May 31, 2023

A week ago I blogged about Psystar’s attempt to distribute Mac OS discs with its Macintosh clones–a move that has gained the ire of Apple and has merited a lawsuit against the company.

Now it’s Psystar’s turn to use legal measures. The company is charging Apple with restraint of trade, unfair competition as well as other violations of antritrust law. All of this is contained in a hefty 54-page complaint that has been filed at that Northern California Division of the US District Court. The decision to file a countersuit is to maintain their argument that there is a market for third-party Macintosh clones, only that Apple has put many legal and technical roadblocks that prevent companies from taking advantage of the demand.

Psystar’s claims actually have some weight and it will be interesting how the US district court will decide on this in the future.

Mixed feelings about WWDC

I eagerly awaited Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ keynote speech at the Worldwide Developer Conference ’08. As you know, I’ve been shopping around for a Mac for my wife and I was thinking that this keynote speech could be the venue for Jobs to announce new Macs.
It was a bit underwhelming personally when I found out that he only announced the next iPhone – the iPhone 3G. Don’t get me wrong, the new iPhone is awesome and with the great price point I am surely going to get me one when it arrives. It’s just that personally, I was hoping to give my wife a possibly new-gen Mac.

This only means that I’ll have to settle for the present generation Mac for her.

Snow Leopard offers stability to Mac OS

Steve Jobs’ announcement of iPhone 3G almostLe strategie di base in poker online sono state sviluppate e raffinato state dal professor Edward O. buried his earlier news during the Worldwide Developers Conference ’08 of a new update to the Mac OS called the Snow Leopard.

The update, officially the Mac OS X 10.6, is expected to be released within a year, which would mean it will be available at the same time Microsoft’s Windows 7 will be made available.

The speculation is that it won’t offer that much of a new feature from the current version of the OS and may even have no new end-user features. There is a very real possibility that this new update will only work on Intel-based Macs–taking advantage of the multicore architecture.

The update will most likely bring renewed stability as well as fixes for bugs in the OS and enhancements that will boost performance.

The most intriguing part of Snow Leopard though is what Apple said–the update is going to lay the foundation for a whole lot of new features. That is worth the proverbial price of the update.

Apple announces new updates in iMac line

May 30, 2023

Originally posted on April 28, 2008 @ 11:52 pm

Apple has recently announced another update on its best selling iMac line of computers. The new models, if I may call it that, now sports an Intel Core 2 Duo processor with a 6mb L2 cache and a 1066 Mhz front-side bus. It will also have a 2gb of memory as a standard specification. The most intriguing aspect of the new update are the graphics card, which will be a GeForce 8800 GS card.

The prices for the new iMacs will start from a pricepoint of $1,199. The monitor will be 24 inches, which seems to be the emerging new preferred size in monitors. It will also have built-in Airport Extreme that is compatible with the 802.11n spec.

I just know that this will create a new buzz — something that we have come to expect from new Apple products that are released in the market.
