Hello friends and fellow Have Laptop Will Travel readers. Just a quick entry to wish everyone a Merry Christmas / Happy Holiday.

I’m not even close to being ready for Christmas this year. So many things to do… so much un-finished business… so many un-answered questions… I sure hope that 2003 starts off better than 2002 is ending.

Sorry this post is ending up to be not so cheerful as it started out to be but in the words of a famous story book character… “Bah Humbug!” and in the words of a great band, the Clash and a great frontman Joe Strummer, “Should I stay or should I go now…”

SoCal Traffic and Fog sucks!

So today I needed to head down to San Diego to do some maintenance on one of my web servers. I left at 6:00 am, only having about 4.5 hours of sleep (thanks for keeping me up, you know who you are… hehe). As I head out, whoosh! in comes some very thick fog… I can’t see anything beyond the hood of my car. So I drive like 40 MPH when the posted speed limit is like 65-70 MPH. Three hours later I finally get to my destination. Everything went smooth, the server is now maxed out on RAM (2 gig) and I upgraded the hard drive to a 120 gig (from a 40 gig), transferred over everything and it came up without any problems!

So now it’s lunch time and I want to eat. I had some yummy Carl’s Jr. After about a 30 minute lunch break, I jump on the 5 FWY to head back to my office in Orange County. The traffic in Southern California sucks and not in a nice way! I left San Diego at 12:35 pm and I just got in at 4:20 pm. I need to get a jet or a helicopter. If you know anyone who has one for sale cheap, let me know.

So that was my day. I’m heading out to take care of some personal business. I’ll check in with you all later.

400-year-old oak tree

Reading CNN.com and listening to KLOS 95.5FM tonight, I heard about this tree, a 400-year-old oak tree that some developer wants to chop down to make room for widening a two-lane road near the oak. Come on people, this tree is over twice the age of the United States of America. It’s a part of history. This tree has survived so much over the past 400 years, wars, fires, etc.

Here’s a funny thing… Gray Davis, the governor for all of California says it’s a “local problem” and won’t help in trying to save this tree.  All of California is his problem. Why not make the road go around the tree? That would just be to easy I guess.

Dude! Where’s my car?

So this morning, heading into work, I make my morning stop at a local donut shop… go inside, place my order for a glazed twist and a large milk… then the lady behind the counter proceeds to say “and then…”

So not realizing what just happened, because of major lack of sleep last night, I say “that’s it, thanks” and the lady again says to me “and then…”

Now realizing that I’m trapped in a bad movie, I say to the crazy lady “no and then!”… no joke, she says to me with a straight face “and then…” so I put a five dollar bill down on the counter, which is more than double what my bill should be, I walk out of the donut shop laughing to myself. As I’m walking out the door, I hear a womens voice from behind me saying “thank you”.

AH!!! NO AND THEN!!!!!
