Western Digital to release 2 terabyte “green” HD

Data hogs can never have enough hard drive space to store their various doodads. I consider myself a space hog when it comes to hard drive space so I really welcome the news that Western Digital will release a massive two terabyte version of its Greenpower hard drive. Greenpower is WD’s low powered HD line and is actually designed for high definition video — this is the kind of hard drive that video download enthusiasts and those who rip their collections in space guzzling HD files.

The new hard drive will be sold at 299 dollars. A bit steep, but still within reach of even the budget conscious. The new Greenpower drive is supposed to cut power consumption by 40 percent compared to conventional drives manufactured by the competition. These drives are also extremely quiet.
