Skype 3.0 Out Of Beta

Skype LogoI just wanted to let all my technology friends and readers know that Skype 3.0 has officially come out of beta.

So what does that mean? You should go download the latest version which as of this post is version 3.0.0.190 released moments ago.

The Skype development team has really improved the User Interface with this latest release which I’m really enjoying since I’m using Skype a lot more these days for online communications with friends, family and clients all over the World.

They’ve also done a lot of bug fixes and added some new features and improved on others.

Here is a brief list of some of the things added or improved with this release that I’ve noticed:

  • Rich Mood Messages
  • Connection Wizard
  • API: rich mood messages
  • API: public chat support
  • API: FILE TRANSFER object
  • Video quality improvements on low bit rate
  • Updated Extras Manager
  • Updated Internet Explorer and Firefox plugins

Skype has really come a long way in a very short amount of time and over the past year or so since I’ve really started to use it, I’ve got over 100 friends, family members and clients all using it now as a main source of communication for Instant Messaging and online phone calls.

Yay technology. W00t!

If you use Skype and you’re not on my contact list yet, be sure to drop me a message so we can exchange information.

Ooh sounds awesome, thanks for the update!

Although I hope they fixed the webcam feature, my 2.0 went screwy and the webcam won’t work anymore :(

I must say, I hardly ever use Skype, I never really have much use for it unfortunately… However when I have used it, it has done the job well and it’s good to see it improving!

With regards to you saying how far it’s come I couldn’t agree more, it has done extremely well.

@Hinano: From what I can tell, they’ve also done some webcam feature improvements, so you should download it and see if it helps your specific situation. Come back and tell me how it goes.

@Aidan L: Why not use Skype more often? Free Skype to Skype calls, 2 cents per minute anywhere in the world on average and the call clarity has really improved with the recent revisions they’ve been working on.

It’s still not perfect but much better then other VOIP solutions I’ve tried.

I would use Skype more often if I had more people to talk to *lol* It seems like a decent program and I would hope to start using it more within the near future, plus it will be cheaper to phone people. I will have a proper look around it and start ‘getting into it’.

@Aidan L: Well we can exchange Skype names if you want someone new to talk with :)

Just contact me via my contact page to exchange information.

Skype is definitely a low cost solution for phone calls, especially if you talk to people all over the world like I do.

This is great, Me and my brother were throwing around the idea of doing podcasts via skype, so seeing it improve is a good sign!

@Nick Gray: Skype is really good for podcasts. I know a few people who use it just for that. You do however need a couple of plugins and extensions for the recording process from what I’ve heard.

Yeah that’s what my brother said, he has that stuff I guess. I can’t wait to start!
