If you are looking for an excellent vacation idea for 2016, whether or not you want to fly or drive, there are some great music festivals that are well worth the money and the trip. Even if you aren’t a huge fan of music you will find so much culture and fun at these festivals that the music will just be a great backdrop for your cultural trip.
These festivals have a lot going on for them. While for a few of them the focus is mainly on the music, some of them are also focused on the art and culture. Some of them have so many more things than just music going on, like art and people doing magic tricks and circus acts, and more. It will be a vacation to remember.
However, there are also some things about these festivals that you want to make sure you are aware of. With music festivals come drugs and alcohol, and you could end up drugged without even knowing about it. Don’t accept stickers, drinks from strangers, or even food from strangers. You can have fun at a music festival even when you are sober.
Coachella
Coachella is a music festival in California that started out in 1999. Each year it hosts a few big name bands in various genres of music. It’s not a rock festival, it’s not a rap festival, it is a music festival. Coachella is in April, and is a great summer music festival for anyone that wants to check out their first festival, or just enjoy some fun in the sun.
Burning Man
Burning Man happens the end of August through the beginning of September each year and it is one of the largest and most cultural and artistic festivals in the United States. It is in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, and you will leave covered in sand, so dress appropriately (and be prepared for a lot of people with no dress on at all). This festival is known for much drug use, but it is something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.
Lollapalooza
The 2016 Lollapalooza at Grant Park in Chicago happening at the end of July is a great mid-summer festival to catch some of your favorite bands, and some new music. Expect a four day weekend of amazing music and crowds of people at this festival. Most of these festivals last for numerous days and people camp out right at the festival. It’s part of the ambiance.
Electric Forest
Michigan isn’t host to a lot of outdoor music festivals, but it does have Electric Forest in Rothbury that is a must see. It is in mid-June and is host to lights, music, entertainment, and so much more. It is literally a huge outdoor love fest.
SXSW
Anyone and everyone in the music industry hits up South By Southwest each year, also known as SXSW. This March festival is in Austin, TX, and has films and music, and so much more. If you love music you will love this festival, and it is worth the drive or flight to Texas.
