I’ve contended time and time again that present laws on copyright are outdated and should be changed or revamped in order to more accurately reflect the change in paradigms in terms of intellectual property. The old fogeys at the RIAA and its film counterpart are just being stubborn for trying to go after the fans themselves. It’s a very shortsighted solution in a battle in which they will just lose anyway. We need newer and better alternatives.

The decision of Walgreens to setup kiosks that will allow consumers to make legitimate copies of DVDs through a system that is also designed to discourage piracy is a welcome one, in my opinion.

Changes in how copy protection laws impact on DVDs have made this “experiment” viable and is encouraging not only Walgreens but also other retailers as well to allow consumers to make copies of DVDs in their stores.

This is a win-win situation for both consumers and for movie studios. Burning copies means cheaper costs, while studios also get a cut of the revenues generated for the services — and they don’t even have to spend on manufacturing and shipping costs.

The idea is already generating a lot of buzz and many people are hoping that this is going to become a success. I hope that this is going to become an important step towards the right direction.

Yesterday, MTV (US) had a special about the upcoming Tranformers movie. This video makes me drool more than the 1 minute long exclusive footage shown all over the internet today. I might leave the house to see this on the big screen.
Forget about Terminator 2, Alien, Robocop and Star Wars, this might become hot!
Video after the jump.

Or just one more disappointment. The movie scares me. I grew up with the Transformers!
Hopefully the memories won’t be ruined by the movie.

But the footage still is very impressive.

Death is never easy, particularly when the loved one lives far away. One of the hardest choices someone might have to make is deciding if it’s feasible to travel halfway across the globe to pay respects.

Soon you may be able to witness the final send off without traveling any farther than your computer.

An undertaker in County Down, Northern Ireland is offering mourners the ability to stream live feeds of funerals online.

The S. Clarke and Sons funeral home offers a new option to the bereaved: live video of the departed’s final journey.

Friends and family who cannot attend the ceremony personally are given access to the feed through a private website, ID and password.

Yes, that’s right, they’re offering streaming death 2.0 web services.

Cameras and microphones are installed throughout the church, giving the viewer as complete an experience as if they were there in person.

The ceremony can also be recorded to the viewer’s PC and saved for later viewing.

What’s next? Deathcasts?

Right now Congress is being pushed to abandon the First Amendment of the Internet – a principle called “network neutrality” that preserves the free and open Internet.

Congress needs to hear from you today or they will hand over control of what you do online to companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast.

Together we won the first round in the battle for Net freedom. But the phone and cable giants are launching a counterattack.

We need to raise the alarm and send a clear message to our new Congress: Make Net Neutrality the Law in 2007!

Politicians are trading favors for campaign donations from these companies.

They’re being wooed by people like AT&T’s CEO, who says “the Internet can’t be free.”

Sign this petition to tell your elected representatives to protect Internet freedom now.

Have you ever got up off the couch to get a beer for the hundredth time and thought to yourself, “What if instead of me going to get the beer, the beer came to me?”

Well thanks to the brain child of John W. Cornwell, there is now the Robotic Beer Launching Refrigerator.

About 3 months and several hundred dollars later John has created a fully automated, remote controlled, catapulting, man-pit approved, beer launching mini-fridge.

It holds 10 beers in its magazine with 14 more in reserve to store a full case. It is controlled by a keyless entry system.

Pressing unlock will start the catapult rotating and when it is aiming at your target, pressing unlock again will stop it. Then the lock button can be pressed to launch a beer in the selected direction.

I want one. This thing totally rocks. The only drawback is the cost.

According to John, he put at least a hundred hours into the build, as well as several hundred dollars worth of parts. He estimates that the price would be about $2,500.00 USD to build another one.

He should put the plans and parts list online. I’m sure he could sell them for a fair price. I’d buy them.
